Resolutions and Goals For 2016

For the new year I wanted to set little goals for me to achieve throughout 2016. I am extremely excited for the new year as I am turning 18 and also my blog will be turning 2! I have never really set myself proper goals and if I had, I never stuck to them and achieved them. However, I wanted to give it another go and try to stick to it.

Goal #1 - Become Healthier
I am not exactly the most unhealthiest person, but I'm not the healthiest either. In 2016 I want to cut out the rubbish food and drink and become a lot more healthy. I also want to exercise a lot more.

Goal #2 - Go Out Of My Comfort Zone More
I am one of those people that prefers their own company to others and that won't wear garish or out there clothes. However, I want to be able to do things that I won't necessarily do, things like date people or wear a really bright colour.

Goal #3 - Spend More Quality Time With Family & Friends
As I said above, I prefer my own company. This means I sometimes opt out of spending time with friends or family and spending it with myself. Even simple things like watching TV with family is quality time, but I choose to opt out of it. Although, I already started this goal/resolution before the new year.

Goal #4 - Save Up £100
I love saving up my spare change. I do it all year round but I always cash in the small amount and then end up spending it. This year I want to save £100 and then maybe put it in a saving account.

Goal #5 - Reach 300 Blog Followers
I am already close to 300 followers, but I thought it would be a small, reasonable goal to reach. I absolutely love blogging and am so proud that I have reached over 250 followers already. Thank you if you have followed!

Goal #6 - Become More Confident
I am extremely insecure about myself, whether it is with the way I look or my personality and that is down to being bullied when I was younger. I absolutely hate being insecure, so I thought I would set myself a goal to become more confident as I would definitely benefit from it.

What goals have you set yourself?

The Divergent Trilogy Book Review

During the summer I decide to watch Divergent and Insurgent since I had never seen them before. I never felt compelled to watch them as I didn't think I would like them, but, as I was bored, I decided to watch them. I absolutely loved them! I thought they were amazing and a really great film. A few weeks ago I decided to watch them again as I had done a double page spread mock up of the trilogy in college. Again, I loved them so the following weekend I bought the books.

The following Tuesday evening I started to read the first book, Divergent, since I didn't have college the next morning so I could stay up late to read it. I carried on reading it for the whole of Wednesday and couldn't put it down. I then began to read Insurgent on the Thursday during college break, lunch, when I got home from college and then Friday morning. Since I was so addicted to the trilogy I soon started reading the final book, Allegiant. I was super excited to read this book as I didn't know what happens because the film hasn't been released yet.

I really enjoyed reading the whole trilogy, especially the first and last book. The second book, Insurgent, was really hard for me to get my head around as it is completely different to the film. Usually when a book is made into a film it keeps the same story line and changes a few bits, this didn't. Saying this, I still enjoyed the book and thought it was really good read. The books were written exceptionally well and I found that I could clearly picture the scenes the books were set in and all the characters. There were parts in all of the books that made me laugh and parts that made me cry, I bawled like a baby in the last book.
I really like the front cover design as well as they look super pretty and stunning.

Have read the book trilogy?

What I Got For Christmas 2015

Firstly, this post isn't for bragging, I simply want to share what I got given this Christmas. And secondly, this next week is going to have a schedule for bog posts, this is because I am in London for two days and because I have a lot of new year posts to share.
I absolutely love Christmas and it seems that the older I get, the more excited I become. This year I ended up walking round the house on Christmas morning singing and dancing to this song.

The first things I got for Christmas were from my mum. She got me a English bulldog puppy canvas (it is so adorable), a puppy calender, bed socks, slippers, pj's, a minion ring binder, Sharpies, a Coca Cola lip smackers set, a pug mug filled with sweets, a Disaronno miniature set and Ferrero Rochers. From my dad, I got a Terry's Chocolate orange, a box of Ferrero Rochers, Ghost perfume gift set, a footsie blanket, some Disney dvds to share with my sisters and money. My dad's girlfriend got me the Lush Snow Angel Bath Melt (I am terrified to use it) and the Lord Of Misrule Bath Bomb.

My two sisters got me the Divergent and Insurgent dvd and the Percy Jackson book saga by Rick Riordan. Other family members gave me money to buy what I wanted.

From my friends I got a lot of goodies! Ashleigh got me the Lush Father Christmas Bath Bomb. Kirsty got me the Butterbear Bath Bomb, the Primark White Tea and Peony candle, the I love mango & papaya body spritz and some gold coins. Abbie bought me the beauticology Mrs Gingerbread's Bath & Body Recipe Book (comes with a body puff, vanilla frosting body butter, milk chocolate shower cream and a gingerbread body wash), some pink and white bed socks and the Golden Wonder Bath Bomb (also terrified to use).
My closest friend, who is more like a sister, bought me the most lovely presents. For those who don't know, I love the Glazed Apple Body Shop scent, so Lauren got me the shower gel, lip balm, hand cream, body butter and candle in that scent. I actually screamed when I opened it up!

I hope you had a lovely Christmas! What did you get for Christmas?

The Christmas Tag Revisited

Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!

Last year I did the Christmas tag, and for this year I wanted to revisit it and update it as some of my answers have changed.

1. What is your favourite Christmas film?
I don't really like Christmas films, but if I was to choose one I would say Beauty and the Beast: Enchanted Christmas. It isn't too cheesy or too Christmassy and it's Disney. How could you not love Disney?

2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
Christmas Day. It wouldn't be right if I was to open them on Christmas Eve.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
When my dogs stole the leftover turkey a few years ago.

4. Favourite festive food?
Definitely turkey.

5. Favourite Christmas gift?
I don't really have one.

6. Favourite Christmas scent?
Apple and Cinnamon

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
Not really. What we do on Christmas Eve changes.

8. What tops your tree?
A gold and cream angel.

9. As as kid what was the one (crazy) gift you always asked for but never received?
I can't remember any random gifts I wanted.

10. What is the best part of Christmas for you?
Seeing the Christmas markets in the city centre or watching everone's vlogmas.

Have you done the Christmas tag yet?

Candle Corner #13 - Yankee Candle Cranberry Pear

For this post I want to talk about the Cranberry Pear scent from Yankee Candle. To me it smells like berries and is quite fruity, which I like as it makes the room smell amazing. Even though it is part of the Christmas collection, you could burn it all year round as it isn't that Christmassy.

A perfect scent for if you hate the over-powering Christmas scents as it isn't strong or spiced, it is just a nice winter berry scent.

What's in your Christmas candle collection?

Mask of Magnaminty Face Mask

I have seen a lot of bloggers and youtubers rave about this face and body mask, and desperately wanted to try it. A few weeks ago I decided to pop into Lush and grab the self-preserving version of the face mask as I didn't want to pay £10 for it to go out of date three days after purchase.

Mask of Magnaminty is aimed at spot and acne prone skin which is perfect as I get bad spots on my face and acne on my shoulders and chest. I love how it smells of mint and that it makes your skin feel smooth and refreshed. Not only does it tackle spots and breakouts, but it also exfoliates with the evening primrose seeds and ground aduki beans.

I love applying it in the bath and then closing my eyes for 10 minutes until it dries. It is super easy to wash off, just scrub with water.

What other face masks do you recommend I try?

Candle Corner #12 - Yankee Candle Orange Splash

I have yet another candle post for you. I really enjoy writing these posts and it seems that you like them.

For this post I want to talk about the Yankee Candle Orange Splash votive. I needed to get some more candles for collection as there wasn't many in the existing one, so I got this one and four others.

I would never have thought that I would like an orange scented candle or orange scented anything, but I love this candle scent. It smells like orange sweets and is very refreshing, which is probably why I love it.

I love the votive size candles as they are really cheap at £1.80 and last a really long time. I also love how they look all lined up together.

What is your favourite yankee scent?

Sparkly Chai

I am a frequent wearer of the Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in Chai, but when it came to wanting to paint my nails with it again, I wanted to add a bit more pizzazz. So I opted for using is as an accent on my thumb and ring finger and then using Barry M Silver/Multi Glitter on the rest.

To be honest, when I first did them I wasn't a fan, but they are grew on me and I love them more and more each day. They're something different to my usual choice in colour and they go with everything.

Everyone should know by now that I am a Barry M fan, they take up most of my collection, so it is no surprise that I am loving this combo. They both applied smoothly and have a great finish. However, the glitter was a little thick and messy, so I ended up with it all on my hands. But the mess was worth it.

What Barry M shades have you tried?

Candle Corner #11 - Yankee Candle Sweet Apple

This post is going to be focused on the Yankee Candle Sweet Apple votive, which smells amazing! To me it smells like a pink lady apple that has just been bitten into and is a very fresh, crisp apple scent. Not really one for autumn and winter, but I loved it too much not to buy it.

I really like the votive sized candles as they are the perfect size candle and don't come with a hefty jar. Also, it burns for apporximately 15 hours, so it won't run out super quick.

Have you tried this scent? Are you happy candle corner is back?

Collective Haul - The Works, Body Shop & H&M

One weekend, I decided to go shopping with one of my friends as I hadn't seen them in over a month. I planned on buying some clothes for college as I have nothing for winter, but ended up coming home with a bunch of really random items.

Firstly, I bought a pair of heeled boots from New Look for £39.99. I bought these the day before the shopping trip, but I thought I would include them in this haul anyway. They are real leather with a 2.5" heel and a gold zip detail as well as a zip fastening.

Back onto the shopping trip, I bought a pack of four silver circle earrings from H&M for £3.99. In the pack there are a set of black, burgundy, pale pink and pale grey earrings which I love. I have a pair of white square studs from Accesorize (I think) and I love them, so when I say these I immediately wanted them.

I then went into The Body Shop because whats a shopping trip without going to Body Shop? I only bought products from the sale section as nothing else tickled my fancy. I got the early-harvest raspberry eau de toilette for £4.50 instead of £8.50 and the sweet lemon shower gel for £3 instead of £4. The raspberry eau de toilette smells like candyfloss and the berry gummy haribo sweets which I love. I already own the brazil nut version of this and I wanted more scents so I got this one. The lemon shower gel smells like lemon washing liquid and lemon sweets which I really like, even though it sounds weird.

Finally, I got the Divergent book trilogy which was reduced from £24 to £10. I was never bothered by the Divergent books or films until in the summer when I watched the two films that are currently out. I absolutely fell in love with them and thought they had such a gripping story line. So when I saw the books in The Works I had to get them.

Have you bought anything recently?

Candle Corner #10 - Another Candle Haul

I have yet another candle haul for you all, but it is only small... I recently went to Media City UK in Salford for a college trip and whilst there we were given two hours free time, so me and my friends went to the nearby shopping centre. I was so excited that they had a Yankee Candle shop and I ended up buying three of the votives.
I didn't know which scents I wanted, so I picked up every candle that sounded appealing and gave them a quick sniff. I ended up buying Snowflake Cookie, Vanilla Cupcake and Vanilla Lime. They all smell amazing and I would recommend you going into a Yankee shop near you and giving them a quick sniff.

Fifty Shades Trilogy and Grey Book Review

I was really skeptical about writing this post as I didn't know what people would think and whether or not you would like it. With that being said, I finally decided to just write it as my blog is a way of sharing things I like.

Last year my friend got me the fifty shades of grey book trilogy for my birthday as I had wanted to read them for ages. A few days after receiving them, I read them and finished them so quickly that I read them again (it took around two weeks in total). I know the books aren't exactly age appropriate, but I thoroughly enjoyed the books. I enjoyed them that much that I have read the four books five times since getting them. The story line is totally different to any other book and isn't just about sex as most people think, it is a twisted romantic love story. The books offer a very alternative romantic story, which I like as it makes them stand out from the whole of the romance genre.

The first three books, fifty shades of grey; fifty shades darker and fifty shades freed, are written from Ana's point of view and the fourth book, Grey, is the first book but written from Christian's point of view. The first book is quite sexual, but the last two don't include as much sexual content and is more about the love story.

I have also seen the film adaptation of the first book and thought it was a good film, but not as good as the book as it missed out a lot of details.

Have you read the four books?

Candle Corner #9 - Candle Haul

Candle Corner is back baby!!!

I have really gotten back into burning candles, whether it is because it is autumn or something else, I'm just loving burning candles. This means that my candle collection has slowly gotten smaller, so obviously I needed to buy more.

Firstly, I went to a shop called Candle Time, which is basically a shop that sells things from candles to ornaments. From there I picked up five votives in the scents Spiced Pumpkin, Sweet Apple, Cranberry Pear, Salted Caramel and Orange Splash. Each cost £1.80 apart from the spiced pumpkin votive as it was fragrance of the month, it was £1.35.

I then went to Home Bargains and looked at the candle section there. I have previously had candles from their by a brand called Wickford & Co and have absolutely loved them so I wanted more. I went for the Carribean Zest and Apple Cinnamon small jars as they smelt the best out of all of them.

I will be doing a separate post on each of the candles, so keep your eyes peeled.

Where do you buy your candles from?

3 Things I Want To Do This Autumn

I love autumn. It's my birthday season, it means it's nearly Christmas and you can wear cosy jumpers. So, for this post I wanted to compile a list of things I want to do this autumn.

1. Try my very first pumpkin spice latte
You are probably thinking that there is something wrong with me as I have never tried a pumpkin spice latte but to be honest, I have never felt the need to have one. I'm not the biggest pumpkin fan, but since I tried the gingerbread latte last year and loved it, I thought I should try the pumpkin spice latte this year.

2. Jump in a pile of leaves
The amount of photos I see on social media of people jumping in a big pile of autumn leaves is unreal. I have never done it probably because all the leaves where In live are always really wet and never the crisp orange ones that you need to jump in. Hopefully this year I will do this.

3. Make S'mores/roast marshmallows
I have roasted marshmallows a few times now and I love it, but I have never made s'mores. Every time I see a photo on instagram of s'mores my mouth instantly waters and I begin to crave them.

What do you want to do this autumn?

Royal Make Up Brushes Review

I have included these brushes in a few posts now and thought it was about time I dedicated a whole post to them. I don't know where you can get them online or if any worldwide stores stock them as I bought mine from a small shop in my local shopping centre. Each brush is priced between £1.99 and £4.99, so if you are on a budget or are just starting with make up, they are really affordable and won't break the bank if they don't turn out so great for you.

I have the blending brush, £3.99, which I use to pack on eye shadows or to apply eye shadow to my bottom lash line if I want a thin line. It isn't my favourite brush out of my collection as I don't really use it all that often. I also have two large eye shadow brushes, £2.99 each. I love these brushes as they are so fluffy (it's so fluffy, i'm gonna die! bonus points if you know the film reference) and versatile. I use these to apply shadow onto my lids and to also blend the edges. The newest to my collection is the contour eye shadow brush, £2.99. Even though I have only had it for a short while, I am absolutely in love with it. It makes it so easy to make a neutral smoky eye and to also add shadow on my bottom lash line. Finally, I have the eye shadow brush, £1.99. It is essentially the large eye shadow brush but a lot smaller, which helps with precision and apply shadow in the crease.

What are your favourite budget-friendly make up brushes?

How I Balanced School With Blogging

I started my blog in February last year and was starting one of the biggest parts of my life, GCSEs. With that in mind, I had to quickly learn how to balance school work and revision with writing posts and taking photos for that post. So I thought I would share my tips on how I did it with you and hopefully it will help a few of you.

Get Homework/Coursework Done ASAP
I did this most of my school life so I didn't find it that hard. By doing your homework as soon as you get it, you then can spend more time on creating content and images for your blog.

Take Photos At The Weekend
School is roughly from 8:30am till 4:00pm, so you don't have much time or natural lighting to take photos with. If you make note on what you need to photograph, what you want as a background and what props you are going to use, you can wake up at the weekend and blast out photos for multiple blog photos. Also, this trick is very handy in winter as you have shorter periods of day light.

Take Time Off From Blogging
I have never personally done this myself, but a few of my friends who ave their own blogs have, and they said it really helped them focus on passing their GCSEs. Also, taking a set period of time away from blogging can help refresh your mind and come up with amazing, original content.

Set Specific Times For Your Day
I spent probably 6 hours a week on my blog, which was mostly on weekends, and I spread those hours between my week. I'd spend around half an hour each week night on creating content and writing content and then 4 and a half hours at the weekend taking photos and editing them.

Create A Blog Post Bank In Your Spare Time
Whenever you find a spare day or a few spare hours in your day, open up your blog and create content. By creating a blog post bank, when you find yourself in a hurry to upload, you can quick read through one of the saved posts and publish.

Slow And Steady Wins The Race
Okay, blogging is no race, but if you start slow by posting once a week, you can eventually get into a rhythm and post a few times a week when you have finished school. I started by posting on a Friday every week and after a year, I began posting three times a week. It's just about finding what works for you.

How do you balance blogging with work/school life?

What I Do To Survive Writer's Block

I don't know about you, but for me, when I am blogging I find that I have times where ideas are pouring out of me and then I have times where my brain is lacking in the ideas department. After reading post after post on how to come up with new ideas, I have assembled my own selection of top tips and thought I would share them with you.

Take a break
Whether it is for half an hour, an hour or a few days, taking a break is essential as it gives your brain chance to relax and think of other things, rather than blogging. I find that taking a break from it helps me de-stress, which helps me come up with ideas. You never know, whilst taking a break you could come up with really good ideas.

Brainstorm Ideas
Even if the ideas you come up with are completely pointless, keep going as it helps get the creative juices flowing. I either brainstorm in my blogging notebook or on a word document as looking at a blank page/screen, helps clear my mind and focus.

Explore the "explore" section of Bloglovin'
The explore section of bloglovin' is my best friend when it comes to coming up with ideas. You have every single category of blog posts right in front of you and there is an endless supply of them. I usually scroll through the "beauty" and "lifestyle" sections as I find they are the categories that suit my blog best, but I do tend to occasionally scroll through the "fashion", "travel" and "food&drink" sections to switch it up a bit. I also find the "find blogs" section quite handy because you can, again, search for blogs in a specific category. I usually spend quite a lot of my time in this section; I find following new blogs quite handy for fresh new ideas.

Google is your best friend
More often than not, when I am out of ideas I turn to Google to find lists of post ideas. I simply search "blog post ideas" and then a specific category and ta dah! I have pages and pages of ideas.

How do you come up with ideas?

The Blogger Interview

I was tagged by the lovely Laura from LikeCubed to do the blogger interview, see her's here. I am so thankful that complete strangers are including me in tags, awards and interviews.

How did you get into blogging?
One of my friends had a blog and I had always read blogs like Zoella and Sprinkle of Glitter and thought that I would like to do it. I also want to be some kind of writer, so I thought this would be a great way to get started, learn new skills and to create a portfolio of my work.

What advice would you give to a blogger just starting out?
Don't follow the crowd. A lot of new bloggers, especially myself when starting out, find that they should base their writing and posts on what the 'more popular' blogs are writing about. It's okay to pinch an idea and make it your own. Also, just have fun with it!

What would be your dream campaign?
Encouraging more people to create a blog or become more creative. A lot of people don't show their creative sides and I think it is because they think that the internet doesn't need another fashion or beauty blog, but I think it is great having the freedom to write what I want when I want.

Do you have a plan for your blog?
Not particularly. I see my blog as being a hobby and somewhere to express how I am feeling and to publish my writing. Who knows, it could turn into a job.

What do you think about rankings?
If blogging is something you do as a job, then yes. But for someone who is just doing blogging as a hobby, not really. It all comes down to what your blog means to you.
I kind of don't fit into this as I do my blog as a hobby, but I pay attention to the stats and followers.

I now tag.....
Lauren from Ivy Drop
Maddie from thatplacecalledhere

Mention the person who tagged
Answer the questions in full
Don't forget to tag up to ten other bloggers at the end

Feel free to do the blogger interview yourself and make sure you let me know when you do :)

Asia - Your Lips But Better

If you are a frequent reader of TGB, then you will know that quite recently I bought the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Asia, read haul post here. I so excited to try it out and it hasn't disappointed. Every time I have been out and about, I have whacked this beauty on and not given it a second thought. Since wearing it I have been getting a few compliments about what is on my lips, so surely it is a good colour. So, I thought I would review it and share it with you.

Firstly, the lipstick is £4.99 which is great for the quality you get. It is easy to apply; lasts for around 5 hours, unless you are drinking, and isn't drying on the lips.
It is a beautiful nude/pink with a little hint of mauve in it with a satin finish. Also, it is quite pigmented so you only need a few swipes and you are done. The packaging is okay, just a simple plastic bullet with a click down lid, which is what I would expect from a drugstore product.

Overall, I think it is a beautiful lipstick shade that everyone should add to their collection. It is especially good if you are still at school or on a tight budget.

Have you tried the Lasting Finish Lipsticks? What shades?

Summer 2015

This June I finally left secondary school, which meant that I had an 11 week summer to enjoy. So I came up with the idea of taking photos throughout my summer and then create a post to share my summer with you.

At the start of my summer I had my Year 11 prom, read about here. It was definitely one of the highlights from my summer, spending a night dressed like a princess with my school friends,I wish every night could be like that.
Since I am a little hermit who loves being in my bed, I watched several TV shows and caught up to the most recent episodes. I have watched Sex and the City, Orange is the New Black, Devious Maids and the most recent one is Pretty Little Liars. I have also watched countless films from most of the Disney Princesses to Pride and Prejudice and Confeesions of a Shopaholic. I have had my fair share of eventful days out from going bowling and playing mini golf to hopping on a train and spending the day in Leeds.

I went in to school to collect my exam results and year book, which felt weird as there were no students walking around, no one in uniform and I hadn't been there in over two months. I have also tried to become healthier by eating healthier foods and going out to take the dogs for a walk. Additionally, I have been spending more quality time with my family by going to see my nan every weekend. And finally..... I got glasses! I never thought I would love wearing glasses so much and although I feel like a nerd, I can't help but take selfies with them on.

How have you spent your summer?

Copper Nails

Last autumn, whilst going through a gingerbread theme phase, I bought this nail polish. I originally wanted to wear everything gingerbread on Christmas Day, I had the trousers, jumper, earrings and even earphones, so I needed a nail polish as well. Sadly, I never wore it and had totally forgotten about it until this summer.

I have always thought of if as a "Christmas colour", it is sparkly and an autumnal shade of orange, so I didn't feel that it was right for summer and warm weather. However, after rummaging through my collection of nail colours, I stumbled across this and immediately wanted it on my nail that second. Since I love it so much, I wanted to do a review on it so I can share my love for it with you.

Collection Work The Colour's Scorched Copper is an absolutely beautiful shade of red/orange with small chunks of gold and orange glitter running through it to give it a metallic look. I have to admit, I'm not a metallic nails fan, I prefer block colour, but this colour looks amazing on the nails.

The quality of the polish is great and applies easily and evenly without streaking. Not something I expect from a £2 nail polish. The brush is very wide so you can do one coat in one swipe and the polish dries really quickly, which is a big bonus if you are in a rush.

Have you tried the Work The Colour range? What shades?

Lush & Boots Haul

I recently hopped onto a train and went to Leeds with one of my good friends for a shopping trip. Of course, me being me, I couldn't come back with nothing.

We first went to Boots as I wanted to grab a couple of the new Kate Moss lipsticks, but they were sold out. However, I still came home with the Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Asia, a gorgeous pinky nude with a little shimmer. I also picked up my first ever blush from Natural Collection in the shade Rosey Glow, a pinky peach.

Then, after searching for ages, we found Lush! Walking round the store I was shaking with excitement as shops are now selling some of the Oxford Street exclusives. After sniffing all of them, I decided that I didn't want any of them and the scents didn't appeal to me. But, I did pick up three of the ordinary range bath ballistics. I first got the Ickle Baby Bot as I only have half of one left, Avobath as it smelt so refreshing and of lemons, and Dragon's Egg as it smells identical to the May Day bath bomb they sell during May.
On the train home I just sat sniffing the Lush bag as it just smelt amazing!

What have you bought recently?
